My Yandara Yoga Journey

in
Baja, Mexico
Reflecting on my time in Baja, Mexico, living in a little hut in the desert for 23 days, I realize how much this journey has shaped not just my practice but my understanding of what it means to be human. Yes, the asanas and teachings were important, but what truly transformed me was the deep sisterhood I experienced with the women I trained alongside.
We came from different backgrounds, yet there was something powerful about being together in that sacred space. The vast silence of the desert, cradled by the crashing waves of the Pacific Ocean, reminded us of the vastness of the world and how deeply we are all connected.
In this space, we navigated the raw experience of being human—joys, doubts, fears, triumphs, and everything in between. Through it all, we held space for each other, creating a bond that transcended words. I’ll never forget the intimate moments when we shared our dreams, fears, and struggles. We were all doing our best to navigate life, and in that, we found a shared understanding.
We learned that yoga isn’t about perfection. It’s about showing up as we are, flaws and all. It’s about embracing both the light and dark of the human experience and growing together with compassion for ourselves and others. The waves crashing on the shore echoed this truth—just as the ocean ebbs and flows, so too does our journey.
Living in the desert wasn’t just a physical immersion into yoga. It was an immersion into life itself. We supported each other through challenging poses, offered comforting words when someone felt lost, and found strength in our shared experiences. Yoga is about connection, and in that space, we realized we are all in this together.
I am deeply grateful for the women who stood by my side, reminding me that we are never alone in our struggles or triumphs. Yoga is more than a practice. It’s about showing up with an open heart and connecting deeply with ourselves and each other.
I’d love to hear your stories! Have you ever shared a transformative experience with a group that made you feel truly seen?
